COLLI TORTONESI, ‘CAESPES’, TERRE DI LIBARNA, TIMORASSO, PIEDMONT, ITALY, 2019
Organic (Converting)
Epic Poggio are based in Piedmont in northern Italy, and are specialists when it comes to a local grape called Timorasso.
They're a 3rd Generation vineyard that produces around 30,000 bottles per year within the Val Borbera.
The 2019 Caespes is made from 100% Timorasso, and is grown on clay, calcareous soils. The vines were all manually harvested, with fermentation in steel, with a small period with lees contact then batonnage.
The wine itself is a vibrant straw yellow, like a chenin blanc almost, with plenty of intense aromas of grapefruit zest, lemon juice, with a smokey, struck match aroma too. There's a full body, it's delicious and just keeps on giving. I love the acidity, and that subtle yeasty character on the finish. It's a really interesting wine and worth trying for sure.
